Are smoothies hydrating?

Smoothie are hydrating, and this one is particularly hydrating thanks to the addition of coconut water and strawberry hydration powder. Coconut water is rich in potassium, and strawberry hydration powder contains both sodium and potassium, the two electrolytes that need to be replenished in the greatest amounts.

The body loses water and electrolytes through sweat and pee. Replenishing both are important because water alone does not hydrate. In order to water to get to the tissues that need it the most, electrolytes are needed.

The best thing about this hydrating smoothie is that in addition to being full of electrolytes, it is also high in protein from vanilla protein powder. Most smoothies are not high in protein, which means they are not very filling. Protein is the most satiating (filling) nutrient, and adding to your smoothie will help curb cravings and overeating later in the day.

Can I customize my hydrating smoothie?

You can easily customize the hydrating smoothie recipe below to meet your preferences and nutritional needs. You can add berries for extra antioxidants, bananas for extra potassium, or spinach for extra fiber. You can also swap out the strawberry hydration powder for our blueberry hydration powder, or the vanilla protein powder for unflavored protein powder. Using unflavored protein powder allows for a lot of room for customization. You can add your own flavoring and sweeteners, for example, until you make the perfect smoothie.
