JACK’S STORY – Jack was sick of protein powders that upset his stomach, so he made with own with a short list of simple ingredients
Why use my collagen protein powder?
My collagen protein powder is additive-free.
One of the reasons why I make the best collagen protein powder for sensitive stomachs is that I do not use any food additives whatsoever. Even in small amounts, added ingredients like emulsifiers, thickeners, flavors, and artificial sweeteners can cause painful gastrointestinal (GI) side effects, especially if you have a sensitive stomach.
collagen, coconut, cocoa, monk fruit
the alternative:
Protein Matrix Comprised of (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate, Micellar Casein, Milk Protein Isolate, Egg Albumen, Glutamine Peptides), Polydextrose, Sunflower Creamer (Sunflower Oil, Corn Syrup Solids, Sodium Caseinate, Mono- and Diglycerides, Dipotassium Phosphate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Soy Lecithin, Tocopherols), Natural and Artificial Flavor, MCT Powder (Medium Chain Triglycerides, Nonfat Dry Milk, Disodium Phosphate, Silicon Dioxide), Lecithin, Cellulose Gum, Salt, Yellow 5, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Papain, Bromelain
Food additives are hard to digest and feed your gut bacteria, which release gas as they eat. As you might imagine, too much intestinal gas can cause bloating, flatulence, and stomach pain.
Partially digested food additives also cause your colon to absorb too much water, which can lead to diarrhea. Here is a list of the most common food additives in protein powder:
acacia fiber, acacia gum, acesulfame potassium, artificial flavors, ascorbic acid, aspartame, calcium carbonate, carrageenan, cellulose gum, dextrin, dicalcium phosphate, dipotassium phosphate, erythritol, gellan gum, guar gum, gum arabic, inulin, locust bean gum, maltodextrin, mono- and diglycerides, ‘natural’ flavors, rice bran extract, rice dextrin, rice hulls, rosemary extract, silica, silicon dioxide, sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, soluble corn fiber, soy lecithin, sucralose, sunflower lecithin, tocopherols, tricalcium phosphate, xanthan gum, xylitol, zinc oxide
Food additives can cause long term gut health problems too. For example, regularly eating certain food additives disturbs regulatory pathways in your intestines, triggering the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Some food additives, especially artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols, can also alter the composition of your gut microbiome – the collection of microorganisms living in your gut. An altered gut microbiome is a leading driver of inflammation and linked to the onset and progression of chronic digestive diseases.
My collagen protein powder is dairy-free.
Another reason why I make the best collagen protein powder for sensitive stomachs is that I do not use whey and casein. These dairy-based proteins contain lactose, a sugar that most adults cannot fully digest. As you just learned, foods that resist digestion tend to cause painful digestive issues.
My collagen protein powder is made from whole foods.
A final reason why I make the best collagen protein powder for sensitive stomachs is that I do not use protein concentrates or isolates. Nearly all other protein powders are made from one or both of these protein sources.
Protein concentrates and isolates have been stripped of everything but the protein, including the enzymes, fiber, and other natural digestive aids that help you break them down. This not only makes them hard to digest, but may also disrupt your gut microbiome.
Instead of using protein concentrates or isolates, I use bovine collagen peptides – a whole food protein source. The collagen itself comes from cow hides. Unlike other collagen peptides, my collagen peptides are taken directly from the hides – eliminating all of the chemical processing. The cows are also grass-fed, pasture-raised, and free from antibiotics and hormones.
Collagen peptides are very small pieces of collagen. Because they are already broken down, peptides are easily digested. In fact, research shows regular collagen peptide consumption can reduce bloating and improve digestive symptoms. Collagen peptides have also been shown to improve the function of your intestinal barrier, which protects you from pathogens and toxins.
In case you were wondering, collagen is low FODMAP, making it suitable for people with IBS. Overall, my customers experience few to no digestive issues with my collagen protein powders. Order samples to see for yourself.
+ What is collagen protein powder? Protein powder is, to put it simply, a powdered version of high protein foods. The main source of dietary protein in my collagen protein powder is bovine collagen peptides (Types I & III), which are tiny pieces of cowhide. Collagen protein powder can be used to make protein shakes, or added to meals to increase the protein content. It is a dietary supplement, and should not be used to replace other protein sources.
+ Why should you use collagen protein powder? Adding collagen to your diet is a quick and easy way to boost your protein intake. Protein powder is not nutritionally superior to any other type of dietary protein, it is just more convenient and versatile. If you cannot get enough protein from other protein sources, protein powder can help you balance your diet. Many of my customers use collagen protein powder because they have trouble digesting other forms of protein. They choose my collagen protein powder because it is made specifically for people with sensitive stomachs. Consult a licensed dietitian to learn more about how collagen protein powder can help you achieve your goals.
+ How should you use collagen protein powder? Replacing a meal or part of a meal with a protein shake is a popular way to use collagen protein powder, as it will increase the percentage of your calories that come from protein. To make a shake, simply mix 1 serving of collagen protein powder with 1-2 cups of milk, a milk alternative, or water. I recommend using a blender or shaker bottle to help my collagen powder dissolve. The easiest way to use unflavored collagen protein powder is to add it to a smoothie. If smoothies are not your thing, you can also add unflavored collagen protein powder to coffee, oatmeal, and other recipes, including savory dishes like soups and sauces. Check out my protein powder recipes for more ideas.
+ When should you use collagen protein powder? Use collagen protein powder any time you want a protein boost, which may be first thing in the morning, or right after a workout. Eating lots of protein first thing in the morning will keep you full until lunch, discouraging snacking and overeating later in the day. Eating protein right after a workout can help your muscles recover. Most people use 1-2 servings of collagen protein powder per day. Consult a licensed dietitian to determine exactly how much protein you need. + Where is my collagen protein powder made? My collagen protein powder is made in Plymouth, Massachusetts in a FDA and USDA-inspected and GMP-Certified facility. I have worked with the same team since day one, and am proud to employ within my local community. Unlike other companies, I built my supply chain myself, so I know exactly where my ingredients come from. Learn more about my ingredients.
+ How is my collagen protein powder made? The primary ingredient in my protein powder is bovine collagen, which is extracted from cow hides using a hot water extraction method. The collagen then undergoes a process called enzymatic hydrolysis, where enzymes are used to break it down into small pieces called peptides. Finally, the collagen peptides are spray-dried to make a simple, easy to digest protein powder.
+ Who is my collagen protein powder for? My collagen protein powder is made for people with sensitive stomachs and gut issues like IBS. It is dietitian-approved for candidiasis, Crohn’s, diverticulitis, gastritis, gastroparesis, GERD, lactose intolerance, leaky gut, IBS, IBD, SIBO, and ulcerative colitis. If you have a digestive disease, it is unlikely that my collagen protein powder will upset your stomach. My collagen protein powder is also made for people who just want an easy protein boost without extra processing and added junk. Order samples to see if it is right for you.

This is the first protein powder that hasn’t upset my stomach!!! The vanilla flavor tastes too much like coconut, though…so I think I’ll be going with chocolate or unflavored next time.

I love going to the gym and have always tried to find a good protein powder and never found a good one that works until I found drink wholesome!! The only thing I don’t like is how the powder get’s stuck in the zipper. I can’t close the bag, so I had to move it to a ziplock which was messy.
