Plus, you probably already have all of the ingredients you need at home. It follows that if you are anything like me, you will be making this recipe once a week. Depending on the type of protein powder you use, you may have to adjust ratios, but once you have found the right protein powder, this recipe is foolproof.

This recipe was made with drink wholesome – the only protein powder made with 100% real foods. Given its simple ingredient list, it makes delicious pizza. Most protein powders, on the other hand, are not good for pizza because they are made with protein isolates. Isolates, which are listed on the ingredient list as “pea protein” and “whey protein” as opposed to “peas” and “whey,” are foods stripped of everything but the protein. The Best Protein Pizza

Ingredients:

-1 ⅓ cups warm water

-2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast

-1 tablespoon granulated sugar

-3 tablespoons olive oil

-1 teaspoon salt

-3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

-1 cup drink wholesome unflavored protein powder

Instructions:

Whisk the warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar together in the bowl of your stand mixer. Then cover the bowl and leave it for 5 minutes. If you do not have a stand mixer, simply use a large mixing bowl and mix the dough with a wooden spoon. After 5 minutes, add the olive oil, salt, flour, and protein powder, and mix everything on a low speed for 2 minutes. Next, place the dough on a lightly floured surface, and knead it for 5 minutes with lightly floured hands. After 5 minutes, poke the dough with your finger – if it slowly bounces back, your dough is ready to rise. Place it in a large bowl, and coat it in olive oil. Then cover the bowl, and leave it at room temperature for 90 minutes.

While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 475°F. If you are using a pizza stone, place it in the oven at this time. Next, lightly grease a baking sheet or pizza pan with olive oil and sprinkle it with cornmeal. When the dough has doubled in size, shape it, and cut it in half (this recipe makes 2 pizzas). On a lightly floured surface, gently flatten one of the pieces of dough into a disc. Place the disc onto the prepared pan, stretch it into a 12-inch circle, about 1/2-inch thick. At this point, your pizza dough is ready to bake. I like to add high protein toppings like cheese and chicken to my pizza, but you can add whatever toppings you like. When your pizza is ready, bake it for 13-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

How much protein powder should I add to my pizza dough?

The amount of protein powder you should add to your pizza dough depends on your recipe, and the type of protein powder you are using. As a rule of thumb, you should use 1/¼ cup of protein powder for every 2 cups of flour in the dough. For the best results, follow the recipe on this page and use our unflavored protein powder.

Does using protein powder affect the flavor of the pizza crust?

You should only use unflavored protein powder when making protein pizza. Flavored protein powders will ruin your savory pizza. You should also use protein powder sparingly. Adding too much protein powder to your dough will make it chalky.  

Is it possible to make gluten-free protein pizza dough?

Yes, it is possible to make a gluten-free protein pizza crust if you use gluten-free flour. Keep in mind that gluten-free pizza crusts have a tendency to crumble. One way to combat this is to add a little extra fat (oil) to your dough.
