Simply the best mocha protein powder.
3 reasons to try our mocha protein powder:
1. Our mocha protein powder is additive-free.
We take pride in producing the best mocha protein powder for several reasons, one being our unwavering commitment not to use food additives. Conversely, most other protein powders are rife with emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners, sweeteners, and flavors. Food additives have the potential to enhance qualities such as flavor, texture, and shelf life. Nevertheless, they can also result in unpleasant side effects and long-term harm to the digestive system.
In essence, due to their stark dissimilarity to natural food, food additives pose challenges to digestion. Consequently, they linger in the digestive tract for longer than food should. This allows your gut bacteria ample time to eat. As the bacteria eat, they produce gas, which in turn leads to bloating and abdominal discomfort. The accumulation of gas also slows down the passage of food through the colon, impeding colonic transit, which can cause constipation.
Over time, the cumulative effect of food additives, especially when consumed daily through protein shakes, can disrupt regulatory pathways in the gut. These disruptions may ultimately contribute to the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other systemic inflammatory disorders.
When purchasing protein powder, it is particularly crucial to avoid one specific additive: artificial sweeteners. In the long run, artificial sweeteners rank among the most detrimental food additives as they alter the composition of your gut microbiota. This can lead to severe and chronic gastrointestinal issues, widespread inflammation, and permanent damage to the gut microbiome.
Certain sweeteners, such as sugar alcohols like xylitol, are poorly absorbed by the digestive system. Consequently, they serve as food for your hungry gut bacteria. These sweeteners can also cause diarrhea by drawing water into the intestines. Now, you may finally have an explanation for those post-protein shake trips to the bathroom!
Here is a list of the most common food additives in protein powder:
acacia gum, acesulfame potassium, artificial flavors, aspartame, carob bean gum, carrageenan, cellulose gum, dextrin, dextrose, erythritol, gellan gum, guar gum, gum arabic, inulin, locust bean gum, “natural” flavors, maltodextrin, rice syrup solids, soy lecithin, silica, sucralose, sunflower lecithin, xanthan gum, xylitol
our mocha protein powder ingredients:
egg whites, coconut, cocoa, coffee, monk fruit
the alternative:
Protein Matrix Comprised of (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate, Micellar Casein, Milk Protein Isolate, Egg Albumen, Glutamine Peptides), Polydextrose, Sunflower Creamer (Sunflower Oil, Corn Syrup Solids, Sodium Caseinate, Mono- and Diglycerides, Dipotassium Phosphate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Soy Lecithin, Tocopherols), Natural and Artificial Flavor, MCT Powder (Medium Chain Triglycerides, Nonfat Dry Milk, Disodium Phosphate, Silicon Dioxide), Lecithin, Cellulose Gum, Salt, Yellow 5, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Papain, Bromelain

2. Our mocha protein powder is dairy-free.
Another reason why we make the best mocha protein powder is that we made the conscious decision to avoid using dairy-based proteins. Many protein powders are made with whey or casein protein, which are byproducts of the production of cheese and yogurt. Unfortunately, these proteins have been linked to gastrointestinal side effects, particularly for individuals with lactose intolerance and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Many people, especially those afflicted by lactose intolerance and IBS, have trouble fully metabolizing lactose, the sugar in dairy. As you have just learned, partially broken-down food feeds the microbiota living in your gastrointestinal tract, and can cause undesirable side effects. If whey or casein protein powder upsets your stomach, it is time for you to find a dairy-free alternative.
3. Our mocha protein powder is made with real foods.
One compelling reason why we make the best mocha protein powder is our deliberate choice not to use protein concentrates or isolates. In contrast, most protein powders are made with these ingredients, which are essentially stripped-down versions of dietary protein. They appear on the ingredient list as “pea protein” and “whey protein,” as opposed to “peas” and “whey.”
Without delving into the details, it is worth noting that protein concentrates and isolates undergo extensive mechanical and chemical processing. In some cases, manufacturers employ carcinogenic solvents like hexane to separate the protein from the food source. Consequently, what enters your body bears little resemblance to real food.
Your digestive system has evolved to handle naturally occurring foods, not artificial imitations produced in laboratories. Feeding it anything other than real food might therefore lead to gastrointestinal discomfort. While the long-term implications of consuming processed foods like protein isolates are still not fully understood, mounting research indicates that they can disrupt the composition of your gut microbiota and cause lasting harm to your gut microbiome.
Beyond its role in digestion, your gut plays a vital role in safeguarding against pathogens, educating your immune system, and influencing a significant portion of your physiological functions, whether directly or indirectly. Consequently, disturbances to the gut microbiome have been correlated with the onset of numerous chronic diseases. It is thus unquestionably in your best interest to steer clear of protein powders made with protein concentrates and isolates.
Instead of relying on protein concentrates or isolates, we make the best protein powders using real foods such as egg whites and almonds. Egg whites undergo a simple process of pasteurization and drying to become protein powder. Similarly, almonds are roasted, lightly pressed to reduce oil content, and then ground. These real foods represent a digestible and gut-friendly alternative to protein concentrates and isolates.
Real foods contain a myriad of enzymes and other digestive aids that facilitate the breakdown of food, thereby enhancing the body’s ability to absorb essential nutrients. Conversely, protein isolates and concentrates lack these digestive aids, making them more challenging for the body to process and absorb. Additionally, minimally-processed plant-based foods like almonds boast a high fiber content, which promotes healthy digestion and regular bowel movements.
Unless you possess an egg sensitivity or allergy, egg white protein emerges as the optimal choice for your gut. Egg whites are low in fiber, low-FODMAP, naturally alkaline, and possess the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) among all whole foods. Our customers have reported experiencing fewer digestive issues when consuming egg white protein powder compared to other protein sources.
For those unable to consume eggs, we offer a vegan almond protein powder as an excellent alternative. Almonds are our preferred plant protein source due to their gut-friendly properties. Research suggests that almonds exhibit prebiotic characteristics, enhancing the diversity and composition of the gut microbiome.

FAQ
What is the best mocha protein powder?
Protein powder is a convenient, powdered alternative to high-protein foods. It does not have a nutritional edge over other protein sources, but its unparalleled convenience sets it apart. Our mocha protein powder is made with egg whites — the clear liquid enveloping the yellow yolk of an egg. Egg whites naturally contain lots of protein, so they can easily be transformed into protein powder through pasteurization and drying. When compared with the protein extraction procedures required to isolate protein from peas, milk, and various other sources, the l processing required for egg white protein powder is minimal. Consequently, we take great pride in claiming that our mocha protein powder is the most natural protein powder on the planet.
What to mix with mocha protein powder?
We recommend mixing mocha protein powder with 1-2 cups of cold milk. If protein shakes are not your thing, you can mix mocha protein powder with oatmeal and yogurt, or add it to baked goods.
What to make with mocha protein powder?
You can make smoothies, pancakes, and overnight oats with mocha protein powder. Check out our mocha protein powder recipes for more ideas.
Which mocha protein powder tastes the best?

Do your taste buds a favor and try mocha protein powder made with the real thing, not a chalky imitation.
How to make mocha protein powder taste better?
Here are a few ways to make your mocha protein powder taste better. First, use a blender or shaker bottle. Second, mix it with milk, not water. Third, add ice or (even better) a frozen banana.

This is really good! I hate all protein stuff and am a very sensitive eater. So glad I stumbled upon this! I’ll be ordering more soon.
Wen –
Finally a protein powder that does not make me gassy. I have been using this every day for months and absolutely love it!
Ashley –
I have struggled with gut and digestive health since I was very young. In my early 20s I got into fitness and weight lifting, so buying protein powders was one of the first things I started doing. Over the years I bought many, they all made me sick. I quit drinking them for several years until I tried Drink Wholesome, I use both the protein and meal replacement never once had a stomach ache! My only critique is that they are a bit hard to mix if you don’t use a blender.
Anthony –
This protein powder saved my life. It’s one of the only things that I can eat these days, and I am so grateful. drink wholesome helped me gain some weight and recover from a what has been a serious and scary flare-up. I would recommend it to anyone with IBD.
Matthew –
have heart burn from other products, this gives NONE! and TASTES GOOD
Linda –
Great product. I have IBS and this product is best for me.
Kris –
I ordered 2 samples, mocha being one of them. The taste is great (I even added a banana). I have no bloating and I don’t feel awful after drinking it! This is the first protein powder that has made me feel great after drinking it and kept me so full for hours! Already ordered 2 bags because I know i will be having a shake every morning!

Love, love, love Mocha and Drink Wholesome! I have Crohn’s disease and am in a bad flare. Surgery is planned but over a month away and I have to avoid food like chicken, steak, fish…it’s a long list of no’s. Nutritionist recommended protein drinks and gave me a competitor’s to try. Its second ingredient is agave nectar, which put my gut in a clamp after two sips. I feel lucky to have found Drink Wholesome because it goes in almost anything on my yes list, including Cream of Wheat and lactose free mild. Does not hurt my gut at all. Because it includes cocoa and coffee I’ve learned to adjust how much I use or drink less coffee. I tend to add the powder in the AM, too, because later does keep me up just like a late coffee would. This does not feel like a hardship at all. I’m looking forward to trying Vanilla. (Can’t do vegan one because of the chickpeas, and I don’t like chocolate). I’ll probably mix Vanilla with Mocha, too, to see how that tastes.
I also want to give a shout-out to the humans, who quickly answer every single email I send with questions like, “Can I put it in hot cereal?” I feel supported. I feel I’m getting wholesome protein in there. I feel I can do this whenever needed, including as I recover from surgery down the road. I feel happy to be a customer of a small company that’s doing wonderful things in a big way.
Grace –
Honestly the best tasting protein powder I’ve had. Digests well too. My only concern is the amount of caffeine, which is not listed?? I assume it’s pretty low because I don’t notice anything.
Mackenzie –
If you have stomach issues with protein powder, you’ve got to try this. I’ve been hunting for a protein powder that doesn’t upset my stomach, and I’m so happy I found this is the one! Zero issues so far. That it tastes good is an added bonus.
Melinda –
I think I already left a review, but I like it so much I might as well leave another. The new mocha recipe is better than the old one, which is saying a lot because the first one was great. I make my Drink Wholesome shake at least once a day (sometimes twice!). It fills me right up, and I love knowing that I’m eating real foods! I don’t notice any caffeine, and you would never know there are eggs in it.
Kelsey –
I can’t get over how clean this protein powder is. Best ingredients I’ve been. The taste is good. It has a really strong flavor, and I prefer something more tame, but it does the trick. The best part is that is does not upset my stomach at all. Can’t wait to try the other flavors.
Ivan –
The taste is great. I mix it with milk and water every morning, sometimes with cold coffee when I want more caffeine. It has been a great addition to my daily breakfast. I feel like it helps with a quicker recovery. Definitely my favorite flavor.
Shay –
Really good! Not overly thick or hard to mix like other powders, good for any time of day. No bloating or feeling overly full after drinking it, and tasted great to top it off. Very impressed!
Sujin –
I’m addicted to the mocha flavor. It’s just what I want in the mornings. It’s a bit too sweet for my liking, so I dilute it any adding more liquid. The sweetness is more pronounced when you mix it with water, so I recommend using milk. Definitely a great product, just a tad too sweet.
Joan –
I love the mocha. It’s flavorful and blends well with my Flaxmilk. Drink Wholesome is helping me transition back into a healthy and clean lifestyle. I love to support local businesses and this is one that I am invested in!
David –
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was not expecting it to taste like the organic chocolate milk I get my young daughter. It is fantastic. I will be switching from ON to Drink Wholesome.
John –
Glad to support a NH business! Got this for my son who loves it.
Brian –
This has been an amazing addition to my breakfast. It’s a bit too sweet for me, but I just add more almond milk. I barely notice the caffeine, but you can’t miss the flavor. It’s truly good. The ingredients also kick ass.
Rebekah –
So many protein powders can have you wondering exactly what the flavor is. With this one, you can actually taste the mocha goodness. It tastes like you’re having a treat, and I love that it’s not made with chemicals, fillers, or artificial sweeteners.
Julia –
I mix it with my iced coffee in the mornings. It’s excellent. I find that it has a bit of fruity aftertaste, but it doesn’t bother me much. I assume there is some caffeine, but I don’t notice it.
Aidan –
The mocha is great. It’s a slightly too sweet for me with just water. I do like it though, especially on hot afternoons after I workout. So many protein powders mess with my stomach, but not this one.
Rachel –
When blended with ice and almond milk, the mocha flavor is divine. I actually look forward to drinking it every day. It is also very easy on the stomach.
Brad –
Protein mix is great! I always have a spoon of the mix I buy so I can see what it really tastes like. 9 out of 10 times the mixes are AWFUL! I tasted DW and it was actually good. I use whole milk with mine and use a blender, best mix I’ve ever had. OUTSTANDING customer service as well.
Guy –
So tasty, I love to mix this with milk and coffee for a quick out-the-door breakfast (mix the milk first so you don’t cook the egg whites, then add the coffee). A scoop of vanilla ice cream, drinkwholesome, and milk makes for a great milkshakes too.
Jenny –
I have been blending the mocha flavor with oat milk and ice as a snack in the afternoons. It is freaking delicious! I swear it’s almost as good as a milk shake. The are a few too many carbs for my liking, but they definitely help with the taste.
Mary –
I just got my free samples, and I like them. Although I did not love the flavors, I’m a vanilla gal, they were very smooth and creamy. I am mostly writing this review because when I called to ask a question about the serving suggestion, someone actually answered my call! Great customer service for a small business, especially during COIVD-19! He answered my questions, and told me that a vanilla flavor will be coming soon! Thanks!
Tim –

William –
When mixed with oat milk, the mocha flavor is insanely good. It is also very filling. Kudos.
Jeff –
I will buy this again! It is really creamy, and the flavor is excellent. You definitely have to use a blender bottle to mix it.
Carol –
It’s a bit too sweet as my eating regimen has NO sugar (other than the natural sugar of fruit), and it doesn’t dissolve very well so I end up drinking somewhat clumpy stuff. (I shake it in a jar). But otherwise it’s fine.
Jasmine –
I look forward to working out so that I can have my drink wholesome! It is tastes delicious when mixed with soy milk. Thanks for such a great product! I hear there is vegan protein powder coming soon! Can’t wait!
Sue –
Hi, I echo much of what has been said before about great taste. Looking forward to ordering the vanilla. I drink it with coconut milk and its a bit thick with the 1:3 ratio. I might try it with water. I have to use a blender to be sure it all gets processed without lumps. Nice feeling of satisfying fullness without any bloat. My body feels happy receiving it. I’m passing the info on to my daughter in California. Very cool!! Thanks guys!!
Henry –
Thank you thank you thank you. This tastes great, mixes well, and does not make me run to the bathroom like most protein powders. I will be ordering again!
Kimberly –

The mocha flavor is legit so good. I have it every morning and it keeps me full until lunch. It has a good consistency and no aftertaste.
Jim –
Not chalky or gritty. I wish there were more servings in a bag.
Jared –
Probably the best tasting protein powder I have tried yet. The coffee really comes through. I prefer it with milk because it’s a little too sweet with water. No scoop?
Jeremy –
Non artificial sweeteners or stevia. Yay! I’ve been looking for a protein powder like this for years.

Laura –
I have been looking for a protein powder like this for a really long time. I am so impressed by the ingredients, and the taste. It has a similar aftertaste to coffee, with a hint of coconut. I mix it with almond milk.
Samuel –
I’ve tried many highly reviewed and acclaimed protein powders over the years but they all taste roughly the same: a sickly sweet, quasi-chemical flavor. Drink Wholesome’s Mocha flavor doesn’t and is, without exaggeration, the best tasting powder I’ve tried. I drink it mixed with water. It tastes as natural as it’s advertised. I particularly enjoy the note of coffee. I’m grateful I gave a new powder a try and I look forward to sampling more flavors by this brand.
Anna –
Great product! I blend it with coffee. Does not upset my stomach like some other protein powders I’ve tried. I will be ordering again!
Michael –
Just received my first order. Fast shipping. The ingredient list is incredible! So simple. It mixes surprisingly well and you can really taste the coffee and coconut. So far I am a big fan.
Matt –
This is the BEST protein powder I’ve ever had. I’ve tried many brands, and this has by far the best flavor, and with no additives! I ordered the mocha, and can’t wait to try the pb coconut!

Good for IBS.
Shelby –
Good flavor and no aftertaste. I use it as a meal replacement and feel full for hours! It blends well too. I use regular milk and my husband uses almond milk. I will 100% be recommending this to family and friends.
Matt –
This is the BEST protein powder I’ve ever had. I’ve tried many different brands, and this is by far the tastiest. You can taste the coconut, but I like it. Subtle coffee flavor, not too sweet, mixes well. If there is any caffeine, I don’t notice it.
Sarah –
Great taste. I love that there are no additives!!! Definitely will be back for more.
