FAQs

Why do you share third-party test results?

Because Drink Wholesome is something you might consume regularly, if not every day, we think it’s important that you have the opportunity to know exactly what you’re putting in your body.

What are amino acids?

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and there are 2 types: essential and non-essential.

Unlike non-essential amino acids, which can be made by the human body, essential amino acids must come from dietary protein.

Animal-based protein sources like dairy, eggs, and meat contain all of the essential amino acids.

Most plant-based protein sources, on the other hand, don’t.

And some people think that this makes plant-based protein sources inferior, but that’s not the case for most people.

99% of people meet 100% of their essential amino acid needs just by eating a balanced diet (getting protein from a variety of sources).

And excess amino acids are excreted as waste, used for energy, or stored as fat, so loading up on complete proteins isn’t advantageous.

Nonetheless, we test for and share the amino acid composition of our products because that’s what some customers want.

What are heavy metals?

Heavy metals are naturally occurring elements.

They’re all around us – in the soil we walk on, in the water we drink, and even in their air we breathe.

Heavy metals are also in the food we eat.

Some heavy metals, such as arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury, are dangerous to humans (at certain levels).

And in recent years, there has been increasing global public health concern about heavy metals in the human diet.

But just because your protein powder contains heavy metals doesn’t mean it isn’t safe to eat.

Almost everything you consume contains trace amounts of heavy metals, and in amounts that don’t pose a threat to human health.

Protein powders are not an exception.

Given that protein powder is something you consume regularly, if not every day, however, it’s important to be mindful of heavy metal content.

That’s why we test our Protein Powders and Meal Replacement Powders for heavy metals.

We want you to know that we care, and that we’re paying attention.

What is glyphosate?

Glyphosate is a herbicide used to kill weeds that compete with crops.

It was first introduced under the brand Roundup, and is now one of the most widely used herbicides in the world.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, over 90 percent of soybeans grown on US farms are genetically engineered to withstand Roundup.

It follows that most soybeans contain high residues of glyphosate.

Trace amounts are also found in other legumes and grains, especially oats, wheat, and corn, raising concerns about the cumulative effects on human health.

The World Health Organization classifies glyphosate as a probable human carcinogen.

And Animal and in vitro studies have also shown that glyphosate exposure might induce neurotoxicity, as well disruptions to the gut microbiome, which could have downstream effects on metabolic and immune health.

That’s why we test for glyphosate and share the results.

Is it certified gluten-free?

Although we can prove that our products don’t contain gluten, Drink Wholesome isn’t certified gluten-free. This is because our facility hasn’t yet been certified due to the prohibitively high cost of certification.
