The Best Protein Powder Cake

Make the best protein powder cake with Drink Wholesome.

This low-carb chocolate protein powder cake recipe packs a protein punch – about 20 grams per serving! That is not shabby for a dessert. It also can be made in a single bowl in only 15 minutes, and is one of the healthiest cakes I have ever made. I would be lying if I told you that I didn’t have a slice of protein cake for breakfast! Disclaimer: this recipe is very much a work in progress. I have not yet perfected the flavor, nor the consistency, so feel free to adjust the ratios, and let me know what works for you! Enjoy!

Ingredients:

-2 cups Drink Wholesome mocha protein powder

-2 teaspoons baking powder

-1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

-1 teaspoon salt

-1 cup dairy-free milk

-½ cup vegetable oil or coconut oil (recommended)

-½ cup dairy-free butter, melted

-4 large eggs

-2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease a 9-inch cake pan with cooking spray. Add the protein powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to a large bowl and whisk to combine. Add the milk, vegetable oil, butter, eggs, and vanilla to the mixture and whisk to combine. Distribute the cake batter evenly in the cake pan, and bake for 30-35 minutes. Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool completely before frosting. Frost the protein powder cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting.

Chocolate Buttercream Protein Frosting

-½ cup Drink Wholesome mocha protein powder

-⅔ cup dairy-free milk

-2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

Mix the butter and protein powder until well-combined. Add the milk to the mixture 1 tbsp at a time. Add the vanilla extract to the mixture and mix well. If frosting appears to be too dry, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time until it reaches the right consistency.

You are reading an article written by Drink Wholesome, a small company from New Hampshire. Since 2020, we have taken a fundamentally different approach to protein powder by only using real food ingredients – ingredients you can pronounce and find in your kitchen. Now you can boost your protein intake without the added junk found in almost every other protein powder. Hooray! You will find that we also make the best tasting protein powder. What can I say, real foods just taste better.

*You can replace the butter with coconut oil in a protein cake recipe like this. I have not tried it, but I was told that it works well!
