American-Made Protein Powder

Where Are Protein Powders Made?

Many protein powders sold in the United States are manufactured overseas, often in China.

This is problematic because almost half of Chinese food-processing plants fail to meet internationally acceptable food manufacturing standards.

According to quality control specialist AsiaInspection, almost half (48%) of the inspections it conducted in China failed to meet the aforementioned standards.

There were many reasons for these failings, including laboratory tests that detected unsafe levels of pesticides, antibiotics, heavy metals, and bacteria.

Moreover, because protein powder is classified as a dietary supplement, it is not regulated in the same way as food or medicine.

Responsibility therefore falls on manufacturers, not the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to ensure that products are safe.

This means you really have no way of knowing if a protein powder made in China is safe or even potent.

Dietary supplements manufactured in the United States, on the other hand, must comply with the FDA’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Why Should I Buy American-Made Protein Powder?

GMPs are stringent requirements for companies involved in the manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and holding of dietary supplements.

They mandate that manufacturers evaluate the identity, purity, quality, strength, and composition of their ingredients.

GMPs are crucial to the supplement industry’s ability to deliver safe, accurately labeled products to the customer.

Customers can therefore expect that American-made supplements will be safe and effective; the same cannot be said for dietary supplements manufactured overseas.

Protein powders manufactured in China, for example, do not have to comply with GMPs, and do not have to undergo testing before they hit the shelf.

This poses a serious risk to the customer, and it is for this reason that I recommend you only buy protein powder made in the United States.

What Is the Best American-Made Protein Powder?

Drink Wholesome is the best American-made protein powder for several reasons.

For starters, it is made in Plymouth, Massachusetts in a GMP-Certified facility inspected by the FDA, USDA, and Massachusetts Board of Health.

We are also fully transparent about where our ingredients come from.

In most cases, they come from the United States!

Finally, all of our products also undergo third-party testing to ensure the absence of contaminants like heavy metals.

It is worth adding that unlike other protein powder companies, we use a short list of simple ingredients.

And instead of using protein concentrates or isolates, which are often processed overseas, we use whole food protein sources like egg whites and almonds, both of which come from American farms.

You will not find a protein powder company that is more upfront about where and how its products are made, and what is in them.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Drink Wholesome for?

Drink Wholesome makes minimally-processed protein powder for sensitive stomachs. Because our protein powder is additive, dairy, and gluten-free and made from a short list of simple ingredients, it’s a great option for people with lactose intolerance, IBS, GERD, and SIBO.

Why is Drink Wholesome easy to digest?

No Dairy

Drink Wholesome is made without whey and casein, which often contain lactose, a sugar most people can’t fully digest. Some caseins also release a bioactive peptide during digestion that has been linked to digestive issues in some individuals.

No Additives

Drink Wholesome is made without food additives. Regularly eating certain emulsifiers, thickeners, and other ultra-processed additives can contribute to gut dysbiosis, which has been linked to chronic digestive issues.

Whole Food Protein

Other protein powders are made from ultra-processed protein concentrates and isolates, which have been mechanically and/or chemically stripped of non-protein components that promote digestion. Drink Wholesome, on the other hand, is made from whole food protein sources, which might be more gut-friendly.

Collagen vs egg white vs almond protein powder?

We make three types of minimally-processed Protein Powder for sensitive stomachs: Collagen Protein Powder, Egg White Protein Powder, and Vegan Almond Protein Powder. As long as you eat a balanced diet, any type of protein powder can help you meet your protein needs. So just pick the type that best suits your personal preferences.
