Give your yogurt a protein boost

Can you mix protein powder in yogurt?

You can and should put protein powder in yogurt. I recommend using Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular yogurt. It also has more protein and less sugar.

I prefer mixing plain Greek yogurt with flavored protein powder. With the right protein powder, you can make a crave-worthy, high protein snack.

Like all dairy products, Greek yogurt contains lactose. Greek yogurt contains less lactose than regular yogurt, however, which makes it lactose intolerant-friendly. It also contains live and active cultures which help break down the lactose it does contain.

Why mix protein powder in yogurt?

Dietary protein is the most satiating macronutrient, meaning it keeps you feeling full for longer than other nutrients. Eating a bowl of protein-boosted Greek yogurt will therefore help curb cravings and prevent overeating, which is key if you are trying to lose weight. Researchers have found that adding low-sugar, high-protein yogurt snacks to your diet can help fuel weight loss efforts.

Mixing protein powder in yogurt is also a creative way to boost your protein intake. Protein shakes are not for everyone, and adding a scoop of protein powder to a bowl of yogurt is a great alternative. You can also use high protein yogurt to make other delicious recipes like overnight oats and and frozen yogurt (recipe below).

Finally, adding protein powder to yogurt is a quick and convenient way to boost the protein content of your meal or snack. It requires minimal preparation and can be taken on-the-go. I like making this simple recipe at night, and storing it in the fridge for a quick breakfast option. By adding some fresh fruit and granola, I can eat a balanced meal that takes literally 30 seconds to make.

Why drink wholesome?

This recipe was made with drink wholesome vanilla protein powder, which pairs well with yogurt for two reasons. First of all, our protein powders are made with real food protein sources, not protein concentrates and isolates. Virtually every other protein powder company uses protein concentrates and isolates – foods stripped of everything but the protein. Protein sources like these have a chalky aftertaste, and do not taste good when added to yogurt.

Second, drink wholesome is sweetened with real maple sugar. Nearly every other protein powder company uses artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, or stevia, all of which have a bitter aftertaste. Unlike sugar, sugar substitutes activate bitter taste receptors. These off-flavors are particularly pronounced when protein powder mixed with yogurt. Now, without further ado, here are my two favorite protein yogurt recipes.

High Protein Greek Yogurt

-2 cups Greek yogurt

-½ cup drink wholesome vanilla protein powder

-toppings of choice

Instructions :

In a medium bowl, mix the Greek yogurt until smooth. Slowly add the protein powder, mixing constantly to avoid clumping. Serve immediately and top with fruit or granola.

High Protein Frozen Yogurt

– 2 cups Greek yogurt

-½ cup drink wholesome chocolate protein powder

-½ cup almond milk

-toppings of choice

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. I recommend using a blender, although a whisk and some elbow grease will work just fine. Place the mixture in a freezer or ice cream machine if you have one. If using a freezer, remove the mixture every 30 minutes and fold it gently with a spatula. Repeat this for at least two hours. When you are hungry, remove your frozen yogurt from the freezer for 5-10 minutes before serving.
