Here is a long list of common protein powder additives.
Food additives, including protein powder additives, are NOT real food. Instead, they highly processed derivates of real food with little to no nutritional value, and some are associated with a host of health concerns, including increased risk for chronic disease like cancer and heart disease. They may make your protein powder mix better, or last longer on the shelf, but they are not nutritious. Do not be fooled by clever marketing. If you cannot pronounce it, or find it in your kitchen, you probably should not be eating it.
So start reading ingredient labels and avoid protein powders that use additives! Not sure what to look for? Here is a list of the most common additives in protein powders:
acacia gum, acesulfame potassium, artificial flavors, aspartame, calcium carbonate, carrageenan, cellulose gum, dextrin, dextrose, dicalcium phosphate, diglycerides, disodium phosphate, erythritol, guar gum, gum arabic, inulin, locust bean gum, “natural” flavors, maltodextrin, monoglycerides, potassium chloride, rice syrup solids, sodium caseinate, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, soy lecithin, silica, silicon dioxide, sucralose, sunflower lecithin, tricalcium phosphate, xanthan gum, xylitol
To be clear, this is a non-exhaustive list of protein powder additives. There are many, many more, so do your own research before you buy.
