Why drink wholesome?
If you are sick of chalky protein powders that upset your stomach, you have come to the right place. Learn more about why drink wholesome is both better tasting and better for you.
Why is drink wholesome better tasting?
drink wholesome is made with real foods
Other protein powders have a chalky aftertaste because they are made with protein concentrates and/or isolates, which have been stripped of everything (fats, carbs. etc.) but the protein. Eating a protein concentrate or isolate is like eating a multivitamin instead of eating fresh fruits and veggies – it tastes nothing like the real thing.
Instead of using protein concentrates or isolates, we use whole food protein sources like collagen, egg whites, and almonds. Ingredients like these taste, well, like real food! Order samples to see for yourself.
drink wholesome is flavored with real foods
Unlike other companies, we also use real foods to flavor our protein powders. Our vanilla protein powders, for example, are flavored with real vanilla beans. Other vanilla protein powders are made with ‘natural’ and/or artificial vanilla flavor.
In case you were wondering, the word natural is in parentheses because natural vanilla flavor rarely contains real vanilla, and if it does, it also contains an added carrier like propylene glycol. Under current regulations, natural flavor manufacturers are not required to declare carriers, solvents, and preservatives on their ingredient lists, even if they are synthetic.
In short, unless you choose drink wholesome, you will be consuming a cocktail of chemicals. This is not only bad news for your health, but also for your taste buds.
drink wholesome is sweetened with real foods
Other protein powders have bitter aftertaste because they are sweetened with artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, or stevia. Unlike sugar, these sugar substitutes activate bitter taste receptors in addition to sweet taste receptors.
Instead of artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, or stevia, we use a natural sweetener called monk fruit. Monk fruit, also known as luo han guo, is a melon-like fruit native to Southeast Asia. Unlike other sugar substitutes, it is sweet like sugar thanks to compounds called mogrosides. Note that we do not add erythritol or any other additives to our monk fruit.
