almonds
We like almonds because they allow us to make vegan protein powder without using protein isolates. Most vegan protein powders are made with plant protein isolates, ingredients chemically or mechanically stripped of everything but the protein. They’re listed as “pea protein” as opposed to “peas,” and are so processed that they don’t look anything like real food. We prefer to eat real foods, and almonds, which are naturally high in protein, fit the bill. We also use almonds in our meal replacement powders because they’re a great source of healthy fats.
chickpeas
We used to use chickpeas in our vegan protein powders because they’re high in soluble fiber. Unlike insoluble fiber, which can have a laxative effect, soluble fiber increases in size as it moves through your digestive tract. This can help make your bowel movements easier and more regular.
cocoa
We love cocoa, and add a generous serving to our chocolate and mocha flavors. Cocoa can trigger symptoms for people with acid reflux, however, so order samples first if this is a concern for you.
coconut
Egg whites have a tendency to foam when hydrated and mixed. In order to solve this problem, we add coconut to our recipes. Coconut is full of medium chain triglycerides (MCTS), which interfere with the formation of foam.
coffee
We add a pinch of Colombian coffee to our mocha protein powder. In case you were wondering, our mocha flavor contains only 10mg caffeine, or about 1/10 of what’s in a cup of coffee.
egg whites
We love egg whites. They’re low in fiber, low-FODMAP, and naturally 80% highly digestible protein (when dried). Unless you have a sensitivity or allergy to eggs, egg whites won’t upset your stomach.
monk fruit
Monk fruit, also known as lo han guo, is a small, melon-like round fruit native to Southeast Asia. It becomes a natural sweetener by removing the seeds and skin, crushing the fruit, and collecting the juice, which is dried into a powder.
oats
We use gluten-free oats in our meal replacement powders because they’re a great source of complex carbohydrates. If you can’t eat oats, try our protein powders instead.
peanuts
We make our peanut butter protein powder with Georgia peanuts. Peanuts are not only delicious, but also a great source of protein.
vanilla
The little black specs in your protein shake are ground Madagascar Bourbon vanilla beans. If this is your first time seeing specs, it’s probably because most companies use artificial or natural vanilla flavors, not real vanilla.
